Guild Meeting Recap

by Cailyx on October 27th, 2011

Hey kids!  Cailyx here.

For those not up to speed, I’ve been back in the GM position and ready to rock once again for a little while now. The guild is currently running full steam in recruitment and gearing mode for the upcoming Deathwing raid. So most of our focus has gone to that.

We’ve had a guild meeting last night to get everyone up to speed on the happenings. For those that have missed it,  here’s what was said:

There were a few important points we covered, mostly raid stuff this time. I’ll split it up as follows:

News for everyone:

So I’d like everyone to give a big hug and a tap on the back to Varrius who has last night been promoted to an officer position. He’ll be undertaking the role of Warrior Class Leader.

This will go hand in hand with our new updates to the Class Leader system. Full info is on the ‘Roster’ page. Link is up top.

The guild rules have also been updated. Please review these ASAP!!

Also, if you have not yet decided whether you’ll be joining us for raids for the upcoming patch or if you have not decided what character you will be playing during this patch, the deadline is Sunday 30th of October. This is when I’ll personally be back from my weekend away with the family… So try to make up your minds by the end of that day. Speak to any of the officers in my absence about your choice or send me an in-game mail please.

If you’ve missed the memo, once again, we’re in full recruitment mode. This is because at the start of next patch, we will be ceasing 10 man raiding and continuing onto 25 man raiding only. If you are interested in raiding with the guild or know anyone that might be, please speak to an officer about it!

At present time we’re full on warlocks and rogues. For all other classes we’re looking for the following:

- A frost Death Knight DPS
- A restoration and a feral Druid
- A Hunter of any viable spec but with a BM offspec
- A Fire Mage
- A Fury Warrior with a possible tank offspec
- Any Shaman spec. Preferably the two caster types.

News for current Raiders:

At the moment, due to our raid team expanding, we’ve split our core group into two teams. This was done so we could get everyone interested in raiding geared up on time and raiding with the guild (with no more benching of anyone interested in playing). At present, instead of doing a gear farm run on Tuesdays, group 1 will be running a 7/7 FL run at 10 PM. Group two runs on Wednesday at 9 PM with the same aspiration of completion. The gear farm has been moved to Thursdays after the two groups have finished off any bosses left over from the previous days’ runs.

If you have not received an invite into either of the two timeslots or wish to change your timeslot speak to Okrog over the weekend!

Just keep in mind, this is curently a temporary setup. Once patch hits, the groups combine into one group and run 25m. Also the schedule will go back to a gear farm on Tuesdays and progression on Wednesday/Thursday. However, the time will be changing permanently to 9 PM!!

-
And that wraps up the content of the meeting.

For any issues/questions/concerns, speak to an officer or your respective class leaders. (At least til Sunday. Then you can all bug me again =] )

Much love,
~Cai <3

PS: don’t forget to check out the rules/roster updates!!

After several tireless weeks (and some help from a friendly shadow priest), normal mode is officially complete! Now for heroics!

We also got step one of the legendary caster staff down this week!

In short: yeah, we’re pretty cool.

Raiding Expectations

by Okrog on April 19th, 2011
Posted In: Blog

As you’re most likely aware, this guild has one all important rule: Don’t be a dick. While I feel this should be enough to cover just about everything, I decided to lay down some guidelines to being a successful raider in Winterhearted. Mainly this is going to cover what I take into consideration when sending out the final invites on raid night.

1. Calendar

Those who accept on the calendar invite will be given higher precedence over those that mark themselves as tentative or don’t bother to respond at all. I generally put invites out thursday night for the next week, it’s not that difficult to respond. It literally takes 2 clicks of your mouse.

2. Class mix

Pretty self-explanatory. A diverse mix of classes is still the ideal, both for loot and for buff coverage.

3. Rank

Yes, rank does matter. As rank is not handed out without consideration, it should be a consideration when putting a group together. Now, this doesn’t mean that if you aren’t at raider rank you won’t go, as class mix is still important, and if I don’t let members and initiates prove themselves, it defeats the whole purpose of having ranks in the first place. To not rotate them out once in a while is just as unfair as not taking rank into consideration in the first place.

4. Skill

If you aren’t willing to take the time to learn your class, you don’t belong in my raid. Not only are there multitudes of resources available to help you (elitistjerks.com for one), but there’s a whole guild full of people willing to help you out as much as possible. I know that mistakes can be made once in a while, but consistently missing interrupts and being below the tanks in DPS are not mistakes. As Oscar Wilde said, “Once is unfortunate, twice is careless.”

5. Gear

I’m well aware that some gear is just not obtainable without raiding, so to hold someone out due to that would be a dick move. So I’m not talking about that gear; I’m not even just talking about rep and crafted gear, though I am talking about that a little bit. What I’m more talking about are gear choices: does what you’re wearing, how you have it gemmed, and how you have it enchanted show an understanding of how your class is geared. Are you for some reason wearing PvP gear, and if so, why? If you need help with the aforementioned rep or crafted gear, let us know. We have plenty of people willing to run dungeons to help you get your rep up, as well as the crafters to make you gear. Even if you don’t have the time to get fully rep and craft geared, at least show that you’re making an effort.

6. Attitude

This is a pretty big one. I’d love to just sum this up with “Don’t be a dick” again, but I should probably get a bit deeper into this. A lot of these fights are new for most of the members of this guild, and this will be especially true once 4.2 hits. Wipes are going to happen and patience may run thin. Some people need a little more time to learn the encounters than others, and having a negative attitude will just make this take longer.

Basically, helpful criticism sounds like this: “Maybe if you /setfocus on the boss and make a focus macro, you would have an easier time with those interrupts. Do you want to give that a try?”

It does NOT sound like this: “Why do you fail so much at interrupting? We’ve been fighting this boss for an hour, can you not press a button when you see the cast bar? Is it really hard, or are you just an idiot?”

9 times out of 10, I’d rather take someone with a positive attitude over a funsucker that makes what should be a fun game into a miserable experience.

tl;dr version: you can be an elite player without being an elitist asshole. You are not a special snowflake, and I have zero problems replacing you if you’re just bringing everyone down.

Under new management

by Okrog on April 3rd, 2011

As of late, our tireless GM has had to deal with RL issues that have left her with little to no time to continue to play WoW, let along manage a raid. Due to that, last week leadership of the guild has been handed off to Link, aka Infatal.

This wasn’t the only shakeup, as Josh will no longer be playing as well. As such, I have taken over the rank of Raid Leader. Other changes are underway, and we will be explaining these in more detail as time goes on. For now, recruitment is completely open. If you’re looking for a place to raid, level, pvp, or just chat with some awesome folks, message one of us in game. Until further notice, we will not be using DKP or any other point based loot system. All raids will be run on a standard one MS / unlimited OS loot rule.

Last, but certainly not least, the elevation of Link and myself left the officer ranks barren. I’m proud to announce that T and Kia have agreed to be the first of our all new officer corps. Link and I both look forward to working with them to build this guild up to where we all know we can be.
